What are Changing Places?
Changing Places are fully accessible toilets designed for individuals who are unable to use a standard toilet independently. The campaign strives to make all types of venues become completely accessible to everyone.

The Changing Place space

All Changing Place facilities should offer sufficient space for a disabled person and up to two carers. The space should provide:

  • A height adjustable, adult-sized changing bench
  • A ceiling track hoist system
  • Adequate space for manouevring (at least 12 square meters where possible)
  • A centrally located toilet, with space either side for carers
  • A screen or curtain to give privacy
  • A wide paper roll dispenser for covering the bench
  • A large waste disposal bin
  • Non-slip flooring

What does a typical Changing Place look like?

The following is an example design that has a central door layout, as detailed in the Changing Places Practical Guide.
